Today we’re excited to release Sensei 1.12 into the wild! This release has been in development since July, and brings with it better theme compatibility.
Better Theme Support
We’ve greatly improved the way Sensei looks on themes that don’t declare support for it. You should now be able to use Sensei with almost any theme!
The best way to tell if your theme formally declares Sensei support is to review the theme’s documentation. It should explicitly state whether or not it was built to work with Sensei. If you’re already using a Sensei-supported theme (e.g. Storefront), then you shouldn’t notice any change.
Read more about theme compatibility (including how to disable it) here.
Improved Course Navigation
We heard from our users that their students are often confused after clicking the Complete Lesson button, thinking that the same lesson was being repeated. With Sensei 1.12, students will be automatically taken to the next lesson in the course after completing the previous one.
Comments for Preview Lessons
Preview lessons (i.e. lessons that don’t require a site visitor to purchase the course or login before viewing) would show the lesson content, but not the comments. Preview lessons will now also display comments associated with that lesson.
Read more about these changes here.
What Else Will You Find in Sensei 1.12?
Here’s everything else you can expect to find in this release:
- Remove Single Course page displays setting
- Start lesson when user first views lesson page
- Bulk Learner Actions showing all users in the network
- Add
sensei_course_image_html
filter to enable altering HTML output of a course image - Minify
sensei.css
- Upgrade Select2 library to latest version
- Fix JavaScript error on Lessons page
Please note: While we have thoroughly tested this release on a number of different themes, it’s always possible that we’ve missed something. We strongly advise that you test the update on a staging site before updating your live site.

And thank you to everyone who helped test 1.12!
