Editor Notes let you and your team leave feedback on a specific block in a course or lesson — directly inside the block editor. Instead of tracking feedback in a separate document or email thread, you attach a note to the exact block it refers to, reply to it, and mark it resolved when the work is done. This keeps collaboration, feedback, and revisions together in one place.
Editor Notes are powered by the WordPress 6.9 Notes feature. Sensei LMS 4.26.0 turns this feature on for your courses and lessons. Notes are visible only to your team inside the editor — students and site visitors never see them.
Requirements
- Sensei LMS 4.26.0 or later.
- WordPress 6.9 or later. On earlier versions of WordPress, Notes are unavailable and the course and lesson editors work exactly as before.
- Notes are available when editing courses and lessons.
Adding a Note to a Block
- Go to Sensei LMS > Courses (or Sensei LMS > Lessons) and open the course or lesson you want to edit.
- In the block editor, select the block you want to leave feedback on.
- Click on the three dot menu in the block’s options.
- Click “Add a note”.
- Type the text of your note and then click “Add note” to save.
The note stays attached to that specific block.
Note: Notes are block-level — you add a note to one block at a time. There are no page-wide or inline (mid-sentence) notes.
Notes can either be added either in the editor window:

Or in in the block list:

Viewing and Managing Notes
Once a note has been added, you and your team can work with it inside the editor:
- View the notes attached to blocks in a course or lesson.
- Reply to a note to continue the discussion.
- Edit or delete a note or any of its replies.
- Resolve a note once the feedback has been addressed.
Viewing a Note
- Select the block.
- Click on the avatar of the editor who left the note.
- The note will appear in the editor sidebar.

Who Can See and Add Notes
Access to Editor Notes follows each user’s WordPress role and their permission to edit the course or lesson:
- Administrators and Editors can view and add notes on all courses and lessons.
- Authors and Contributors can view and add notes only on courses and lessons they authored.
- Subscribers — including your students — cannot view or add notes.
Note: Notes appear only inside the block editor. They are never shown to students or visitors on the front end of your site.
Limitations
- Editor Notes require WordPress 6.9 or later. On older versions, the feature is unavailable.
- In Sensei, Notes are enabled for courses and lessons only — not for quizzes, questions, modules, or other content types.
- All notes are block-level. There are no inline (within a sentence) or document-wide notes.
- Notes work only within course and lesson content, not in site templates or the Site Editor.
- If you duplicate a block that has a note, the note is associated with both the original block and the copy.
