To add a lesson, go to Lessons > All Lessons and click Add New.
Start by giving the lesson a title:
Next, enter the content for the lesson in the main content area:
If you like, you can enter a brief description of the lesson in the Excerpt field. The excerpt will be displayed below the lesson title on the single course page. If the excerpt is empty, only the lesson title will be shown:
Add Lesson Information
You can optionally provide additional information about a lesson, including the length (in minutes) and the complexity. To add a video, paste the video embed code (from YouTube, Vimeo etc.) into the Video Embed Code field:
Note: Sensei is unable to protect video content. If you need to ensure that only paying customers can watch videos, we recommend using a service such as Vimeo PRO.
Assign a Lesson to a Course
In the Course panel, select the course that the lesson should be associated with. If you haven’t created the course yet, you can do so by clicking Add New Course:
Note: We don’t recommend adding a lesson to a course that is already live and has active learners. See this page for more information.
Set a Prerequisite
If you would like learners to complete another lesson before taking this one, you can set a Prerequisite. Learners will not be able to start taking this lesson until they complete the prerequisite lesson first:
If a learner tries to view this lesson before completing the prerequisite one, they will see a notice similar to the following:
Enable Preview Mode
To provide a free sample of your course content, you can select the Allow this lesson to be viewed without purchase/login box. This will allow the lesson content to be viewable by anyone, without having to purchase or register first:
Here’s how the course archive page might look for a course containing a preview lesson(s):
The course page itself also indicates which lesson(s) can be previewed:
Note: If the course is a paid course, it will say “Free Preview” instead of “Preview”.
You can also add tags to lessons in the same way as with regular posts. If you would like lessons to be searchable by tag, you will need to use a search plugin such as Search WP.
Add a Quiz to a Lesson
See Adding Quizzes for information on how to add a quiz to a lesson. If there is no quiz for a particular lesson, that lesson will display a Complete Lesson button. This button enables learners to mark the lesson as complete without taking a quiz.
Change Lesson Order
To change the order of lessons displayed within a course, go to Lessons > Order Lessons, select a course, and click Select.
Drag and drop lessons into the desired order, and click Save Lesson Order.
If your course is divided into modules, you can only reorder lessons within each module. If you want to move a lesson into a different module, you need to edit that lesson and select a different module for it.
Duplicate a Lesson
- Go to Lessons > All Lessons.
- Hover over a lesson and click the Duplicate link.
- Click OK in the confirmation dialog box. A duplicate of the lesson (including quiz questions) is created and saved as a draft so that you can edit before publishing.
